Today our youth are taking wars out on each other? What can we do about it, I ask? Do you think if we give them every opportunity to make something of themselves they will stop the violence? Do you think if we ask them to drop their guns and pick up peace they will do it?
Why would they when it seems like so many people are getting rich from perpetuating the very thing that makes them seem cool??? Little children are encouraged to play video games with guns and fighting, yet we think they are not being affected?
It hurts my heart every time I hear of another young man who has been killed because he is part of the "gangsta" crew, and being cool means you have to "diss" your brother because he seemingly disrespected you. Whatever happened to having a conversation about what bothers you and perhaps agreeing to disagree? Why does someone have to be right? Why does someone else have to be wrong?
How many of our youth have to be buried before THEY will get a clue and decide enough is enough?
I told my daughter about the friend of her half brother who got killed, and that I posted a message on her brother's Facebook page asking how can we make this world better for them. I asked if the youth would help us help them by stopping the violent-speak in the gansta' raps. She told me how outspoken T.I .(a popular rapper) has become after he went to jail for keeping guns in an apparent effort to protect himself from people like himself.
Let's be honest:
We have inherited this world from relatives who were not picture perfect. Hell, they were sneaking around and doing all types of unmentionable things they would never want us to know.
We have done things we are not very proud of ourselves. I know I have, and would not want many people to call me out on any of it.
My point, the kids are not stupid. They know we are not saints, they are not duped! Let's really be honest with them and give them real tools to survive. Part of the problem is that we hide behind our holy Sunday's best veils and these kids are looking at us like we are crazy. We can tell them all we want for them, and that there is a God, and that someday soon this world will be all over and we will see his face if we just accept God's Son.
Well, guess what??? They obviously do not believe it! They are asking , well who's son am I? They know there has to be something else besides this torn up world, or at least they think it is. But some of them are so confused because most of the parents who are raising these kids really do not live it themselves.
I am not the one to frantically say, "Hey let's all go get 'saved'." That is not who I am. But what I will say is this: the youth are in turmoil because we are leaving them a hell on earth. We are all responsible for what is happening. It is not a racial thing either. You know why? Because, this thing has crossed all color barriers, we are living in times where if you turn a blind eye to the violence you are doing your "seed" a dis-service. Because if one of us falls it becomes a domino effect and it doesn't even matter if you think you have all the money to out-run it, it is dooms-day even for the richest among us if we keep letting the kids kill each other off.
What is the solution? I don't have all the answers, and there has to be many. But one thing I know for sure, the youth are going to college and they do not have a job waiting for them like we did when we got out of school. Let's teach them how to be self sufficient, to be entrepreneurs and to go into businesses that will help them succeed in today's world. There is a shift and most of the world, especially our youth, are not prepared. We have to be willing to train them and help them to understand there is more to it than drug trafficking to make ends meet. Let them know that if they can sell drugs they can have a legitimate business. It really is time for a change. The youth need us more now than ever.
